    Research and Conservation

Besides public exhibitions, there is a group of scientists carrying out scientific research in NMMBA. There are two research buildings, a marine station and research facilities providing researchers to work on marine biology and ecology, aquaculture, propagation and conservation of marine fauna and flora. NMMBA is the largest marine biology research unit in Taiwan, working together with universities and research institutes both in Taiwan and worldwide through joint programs. Since 1997, NMMBA has been providing help to endangered or threatened aquatic animals, especially for dolphins, whales, and sea turtles.

NMMBA and National Dong Hwa University co-establish Graduate Institute of Marine Biology, aiming to train graduate students specialized in marine biology. The graduate institute is located on the campus of NMMBA, creating the first case of cooperation between a museum and a university in Taiwan. Furthermore, through the establishment of the Innovation Incubation Center, NMMBA further advances to the business world of international marine biotechnology by inventing marketable products with patents based on the research findings.
